Facing starvation, they secured provisions from the ancient Salt-Vaults but left the intelligent Rat King trapped within. During repairs, they discovered three Brotherhood Wardens in stasis—Warden Aldric, Petra, and Cassen—and negotiated their cooperation. Investigating the Grand Archive, they learned the Amalgamation guardian was actually Subject Alpha, a transmuted person, and successfully stabilized him into Subject Gamma, a conscious guardian. Opening the Grand Stairwell, they descended into the Military Empire layer, mapping chronomancy-preserved halls and containing a temporal anomaly before discovering Stone-Tenders guarding a First World doorway with mathematical architecture predating all known civilizations. Responding to a metallic sweetness leak, they entered the Dwarven Layer and contained a Dreamstone radiation breach in a lead-sealed mausoleum, battling animated dwarven echoes while sealing the fissure. They recovered a Dreamstone Fragment and dwarven survey notes identifying the Cold Forge as a containment maintenance facility whose fires must be reignited to manufacture proper seals. The Rat King remains a threat in the Salt-Vaults, while deeper mysteries—the First World doorway and the sleeping presence below—await investigation.
