Project Amalgamation
Project Amalgamation was a clandestine research initiative undertaken by the Secretive Brotherhood within The Grand Archive, with the goal of creating a permanent, conscious guardian for the facility.
Objective
The project aimed to achieve a stable transmutation of a willing human subject into a powerful, immortal entity bound to protect the archive. The successful outcome was designated Subject Gamma.
Methodology
Research, detailed in the archive's West Wing, involved forced vivisection and transmutation magic. The process required the integration of a Core Prototype crystal into the subject's chest cavity, catalyzed by radiant energy, to achieve final stabilization.
Outcome and Ethics
The project resulted in Subject Gamma|Subject Alpha, who became known as The Amalgamation. The experiment was sabotaged by Brother-Captain Valerius|Commander Valerius, who removed the core to maintain control, trapping the conscious subject in a state of perpetual agony and flux for two centuries. This act revealed the project's profound ethical failure, prioritizing control over the well-being of a sentient being.
Resolution
The project was effectively terminated when adventurers intervened, using the core prototype and alternative energy sources to complete the transformation, finally creating the stable guardian, Subject Gamma, as originally intended.
